Drowning

Every time I see news of another child drowning in a pool, I’m overcome with sadness and horror. And this feeling of total helplessness.

Last week, I came across a really great article written by a Drowning Investigator. This mama’s job is literally to investigate the circumstances around children drowning in pools. Every day.

I absolutely love this article. And here’s why.

In it, the author discusses the tools she uses with her own children to ensure they don’t drown. And these tools are things we could easily implement with our own children. From sitting down with them every time they are around water and discussing where the danger zones are before anyone even gets in the water (which she calls Safety Briefings)… to not allowing her children to be in a body of water without a flotation device on if her and her husband aren’t present… I just loved the simple, actionable steps that were outlined.

After reading it I felt a lot less helpless and will be following her guidelines with my own kids.

I urge you to take the time out of your day to read the article in its entirety. You might be saving a life. Just click here.
