Positano (Styling)

The beautiful Manola Spaziani is responsible for this timeless hair and makeup. Since we were shooting in Positano and this was our Engagement Shoot, I wanted our children and grandchildren to be able to look at these photos for years to come and still have them feel relevant.

Rebecca Yale (our photographer) is such a talent and was able to capture us in a way that felt emotional, personal, and beautiful all at once. I also think the fact that she is a Film Photographer and these are shot on Film really enhanced all the things we were trying to convey with this shoot. Had these been captured using a Digital Camera they just wouldn’t have been the same.

It is so important to choose the right photographer to capture the mood you are trying to convey with a shoot (but that’s a whole different post).

The Face

It was important to me to use products I use every day on my face. I wanted to look like myself. And while there were a lot of products applied (especially since it was raining), I wanted the overall look to be natural.

Every product used on my face for this look is Kevyn Aucoin. So in the interest of not sounding like a total broken record, only the product names are listed below.

skin

Primer: The Primed Skin Developer

Foundation: The Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation (in 03)

Concealer: The Sensual Skin Enhancer Concealer (in 03).

Contouring: The Sculpting Powder in Medium

Highlighting: The Celestial Powder in Candlelight.

If you are looking to try these products I recommend going to Neiman Marcus in person if you can. They have a full beauty counter devoted to Kevyn Aucoin. If there’s not one near you, the website will suffice.

Eyes

Eyeshadow: Vellum Shimmer/Shimmering Wheat Eyeshadow Duo and Coffee Bean Eyeshadow Single

Eyebrows: Coffee Bean Eyeshadow Single

Eyeliner: Coffee Bean Eyeshadow Single

Eyelashes: whenever I know I’m going to be heavily photographed I always go for extensions over mascara

lips

My lip gloss is Lilium applied over foundation. It’s a really beautiful pinky peachy nude shade that is slightly translucent and has a bit of a shimmer. It’s one of my top three favorite lip products.

The Hair

Manola created the most beautiful hair on me. My hair is naturally curly and we knew we would be shooting in the rain, so we decided to just go with my natural texture. This winding up-do held in place throughout the whole shoot and looked great the entire time.
