Disney World (Bring Your Own Stroller)

My husband was basically a human stroller for the first three days of our trip to Disney World. Camilla rode him like a horse. Needless to say, the whole “it’ll be fine” mentality didn’t work for us. Disney Parks are massive and our three-year-old could not keep up.

We are going back to Orlando this December and are planning on doing things a bit differently, especially since we now have baby Kroy in addition to our defiant toddler girl.

We are bringing our own stroller.

This is the right decision for us, especially since we have two kids now.

Double Strollers at Disney cost a whopping $31 per day. Which comes out to $155 total for a 5 day vacation. And they’re kind of gross. They’re super worn down and very bare bones. Definitely not safe if one of your kids is under a year old. I believe you save a bit if you do a multi-day rental up front but again, I really don’t recommend this. I would know because we ended up renting one on our last day there. It was better than nothing but far from ideal.

Also, if you are park hopping you’re going to have to return the stroller before leaving each park and retrieve a new one upon entering each park, which is super annoying. You don’t have to pay again, but who wants to deal with the hassle? Plus walking through parking lots and waiting for transportation without a stroller is half the battle. Your kid will be tired and cranky and you will be carrying them.

So if you’re bringing your own stroller (like us) here’s what you need to know.

Most airlines check strollers for free right before you board the flight. We are flying with Jet Blue and this is the case. But be sure to check with your airline before booking.

Disney World has changed their Stroller Policy. As of 2019, all strollers in parks must be no larger than 31 inches wide and 52 inches long. If you are planning on bringing a double stroller (like we are), make sure to check the dimensions before traveling. We just bought the Joovy Caboose Too Ultralight Graphite Stand-On Tandem Stroller (say it three times fast) and are obsessed with it, so we will be bringing that. Disney World no longer allows stroller wagons, nor do they allow traditional wagons. I personally love a good stroller wagon for pulling the kids around (especially since we live in a beach town), but this is their new Stroller Policy and there’s nothing we mere mortals can do about it.

Another option would be to Amazon Prime yourself a stroller directly to the hotel.

Lastly, be sure you decorate your stroller so it’s easy to identify in a sea of other strollers (especially if it’s black). An easy way to do this is to tie a cute balloon to it (perfect for photos). Or mark it before you leave home with a brightly colored luggage tag. Whatever works for you. Just make sure it stands out.

And don’t forget to pack a Water Repellent Cover. Florida is known for their unexpected, intense rain showers.
